^{Iv'e been doing a lot of reading on new developments with irregular shapes and forms and I stumbled on this building. Unfortunately the blog does not allow for upload of images due to technical issues so apologies for the lack of visuals.} 
In addition to conveying a compelling vision of space and life and how the two intertwine, the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium at SPACE FOR LIFE is helping to redefine architectural excellence and the principles of sustainable development as they apply to new buildings.

The result of an international architecture competition involving firms from Canada, the U.S., France, Germany, Italy and China, which was eventually won by the Montréal consortium of Cardin Ramirez Julien + Ædifica.

The Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium was shaped by the creative ingenuity and unrivalled expertise of an inspired group of architects, engineers and contractors committed to applying innovative construction techniques, state-of-the-art technology and the principles of renewable energy and sustainability. A number of LEED certification specialists took part in the project.

                         Great Precedence

While browsing I found this amazing renovation of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam done by Benthem Crouwel Architects. I found this particularly interesting because it deals directly with the issues i am currently facing with my mediateque library as i too am attaching a new contemporary building onto an old one. I was fascinated by how well the two jell together but at the same time allow an obvious visual difference between old and new.

I have been trying daily since last week to blog, I've tried Forefox and Google Chrome. None of the two will upload any of my images. I will however keep trying.

This building is greatly influenced by the work done by Stirk Harbour + Partners.

I am basicly providing an architectural solution to an existing context where the main library does not have sufficient and up to date technology facsilities. I have found a void space just next to the library, it has beautiful northern sunlight coming into it but is under used. I am ''clipping'' onto the existing library the way a mosquito latches onto a persons skin. My building then becomes a brand new skin to the existing library filtering light and veiws in and across my building into the library.
